Christmas Stars Table Runner and Pattern

Christmas Stars Table Runner and Pattern

Hello Dear Friends and Readers,

No matter what time of the year, let’s face it, Christmas is never really that far away.  I thought we had better start early!

This can be adapted for any shape of table.

Today I would like to share with you a Table Runner which is pretty enough to use all year round,  but definitely festive enough to have for Christmas.

Maybe you would like to make one for your Christmas gift or for someone you love, like I did.

Incidently, This is a very adaptable pattern, if you have a small table make 3 stars,  if you have a round or square table, make 4 stars in a square, or like the one I’m making with 5 stars.

Finished runner size approximately 15″ x 63″
Finished Block size approximately 12″ x 12″

All fabrics have been washed and lightly pressed before commencement.

Lets get going.

Ingredients

3 of 6 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ black print squares
2 of 6 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ cream print squares
8 of 4″ x 4″ red  squares
12 of 4″ x 4″ medium print squares
20 of 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ cream background  squares
20 of 4″ x 4″ background cream squares
4 of 1 1/2″ green print width of fabric strips

4 of 2 1/2″  width of fabric red print strips for the binding

Method

Draw a diagonal line across the wrong side of the 4″ cream background squares.  Put a 4″ background cream square right sides together with a red print square.  Sew a 1/ 4″  seam on each side of the drawn line.  Cut down the centre along the drawn line to reveal 2 blocks.  Press.  Trim to  3 1/2″ square if necessary.

Repeat with all the red and mixed print squares until you will have 40 half square triangle units.  These will be the star points.

Make the star blocks.

Take one of the 6 1/2″ black squares.  Lay out 8 of the mixed print star points and 4 of the cream 3 1/2″ squares in each corner as pictured below.  Sew the star points together in pairs.  Then sew two of the pairs to two opposite sides of the black print squares.

Sew the cream 3 1/2″ squares to each side of the remaining 2 pairs.  Then sew these two sets to the other two sides of the black print squares making sure that the points are facing the correct way and the seams are lined up.

Repeat these steps to make the remainder 4 star blocks.  Press the blocks.

Join the star blocks into one long row alternating the black and cream centres.
